Speaking Center Mission
As a part of the Center for Writing and Speaking, the Speaking Center is a part of the academic program in the liberal arts environment at Agnes Scott College channeling both wide campus use and is investment in all areas of academic development.
Our Mission:
The Agnes Scott College Speaking Center seeks to empower individuals across the intellectual arena to lead by communicating their ideas, beliefs, and visions through a study of the art of speech in an environment conducive to understanding and appreciating the rhetorical craft.
Our Role:
The Speaking Center and its staff strive to serve the Agnes Scott campus community as the center of all rhetorical discourse on campus. In other words, speaking with intention happens here. Whether your intention is to contribute to existing scholarship in a discipline (research presentations), to persuade or inform an audience (course presentations), to secure a job (interview), to highlight an organization or speak at an event (ceremonial speeches), or to add vocal character to text (whether in acting or oral interpretation), the Speaking Center is equipped to assist you in all speaking endeavors. Out utmost charge is to cultivate within speakers of all persuasions and skill levels the commitment to speak responsibly, ethically, and powerfully as members of the Agnes Scott community and society at large.
